Korey & Mila in KC

We are excited to offer a new approach to learning tango, designed specifically for the KC tango community. Four simple principles have influenced this approach.  1) Tango is body learning, which requires repetition and reinforcement,  instruction once a week is just not enough. 2)  Beginning leaders and followers gain confidence and good habits faster dancing with more experienced partners.  Experienced dancers can find both personal and community benefit  from partnering new leaders and followers.  3) Practice time is a key ingredient to efficient progress.  4)  In tango we all have something to teach and we all have something to learn. Developing the talents of KCs next generation of teachers is key to our growth.

Tuesdays we learn the essence of a movement or idea, with exercises, games, technique and practice drills. At 8pm we focus on the topic at an introductory level, and at 9 we go deeper into exploration of the same theme for improving dancers. Experienced dancers are encouraged to come for both hours.

Thursdays we work on specific vocabulary to develop a tango body intelligence for each week’s topic.  (Obviously you should come Tuesday to learn the elements for Thursday's material.) We will work with practical elements and sequences with lots of variation for dancers of different levels.  Thursday we will transition from beginner's material to improver's material with an overlap period where beginner dancers will have experienced partners.  And follow with a guided practica staffed with some of Kansas City’s most experienced tango social dancers and teachers!

Sunday classes will syncronize with the week’s topic and offer opportunity to review and practice.   Then stick around for La Ceremonia, KCs longest running milonga, in relaxed intimate setting to enjoy tango.

The tentative themes for February and March are:

  1. Embrace, Intention and Walk
  2. Weight Changes + Rhythm
